Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, refers to the pain and inflammation that can result from the systemic loss of bone tissue in the joints. Osteoarthritis - also called the wear and tear arthritis - results from gradual deterioration of cartilage in the joint after years of use. Without the protective cartilage at the ends of bones in joints - especially the spine and legs - the bones begin to rub together, creating friction and pain. It is the most common form of arthritis particularly in joints that are abused or damaged or the aging process itself.

The two primary components of cartilage are collagen and proteoglycans. Collagen consists of long strands of protein while proteoglycans contain long chains of repeating sugars called glycosaminoglycans. The most predominant of the glycosaminoglycans in cartilage is Chondroitin Sulfate. Chondroitin Sulfate is intertwined with the collagen fibers to provide a structure where the Chondroitin Sulfate acts as a "water magnet". This ability of Chondroitin Sulfate to hold water gives the rigidity to the cartilage and acts as a shock absorber.

Another type of arthritis is called rheumatoid arthritis where the synovial membrane becomes thickened and inflamed. This inflammation causes cartilage to break down at the pivot point of the joint while excess synovial fluid causes the cavity to swell. As a way to combat this pain associated with inflammation we have combined Chondroitin Sulfate with MicroLactinTM.

MicroLactinTM is comprised of micronutrients found naturally in cow’s milk. Scientists have discovered a small, low molecular weight fraction of milk that carries unique properties associated with the human inflammatory response system. Through a unique process these bioactive micronutrients are super concentrated so that they can be delivered in a convenient dietary supplement form. Modern science has simply harnessed Mother Nature’s own approach for optimal joint function.
